Presumably you did not try 'man gphelp', right ?

You're looking for $GPXDVI

% dpkg -L pari-doc | grep man
/usr/share/man
/usr/share/man/man1
/usr/share/man/man1/gphelp.1.gz

so there's really a single candidate...
